Vara Hindu Weekdays

Vaara or a weekday in the Hindu Panchanga system is from Sunrise to next day Sunrise. 


The seven weekdays as Vaara: 

Sunday – Ravivaar | Monday – Somavar | Tuesday – Mangalavar | Wednesday – Budhavar | Thursday – Guruvar | Friday – Shukravar | Saturday – Shanivar


Sunday

Ruled by Aditya or Sun | Deity: Sun

Sun is a representative of your soul, pure consciousness, hence it is a day of positivity and integrity. It represents the pride of self. Work on activities that develop confidence in you as a person. Pay attention to your body and your inner Self. Good for enjoying work related to nature, work related to gold, copper, trees, silk, fire, coronation. Control your anger and ego. Not a day to be lazy, rude or violent.
 

Monday 

Ruled by the Chandra or Moon | Deity: Shiva

Moon represents our intellect, hence it is a day of creativity, innovation and intuition. Since the moon also represents the feminine, it is also a good day to do activities of feminine nature, such as buying new things like clothes, accessories and jewellery. Also for marriage, dating, helping female relatives, make changes and things related to mother, water, milk. Don’t be rigid or tough, Avoid haircuts and manicure.
 

Tuesday 

Ruled by Mangal or Mars | Deity: Ganapati/Hanuman/Vishnu-Lakshmi

Mars represents the masculine. This is day of material things, of business, going after something passionately. Good for work related to minerals and metals, medicine, fire, electricity, sporting activities. Not suitable to begin new things. Avoid traveling, be extra careful if you have to travel, beware of injuries, quarrel, falls and accidents. Take care of your health. 

 Wednesday

Ruled by Budha or Mercury | Deity: Ganapati

Day of wisdom, knowledge, friendly communication. A favourable day for all types of refined work, gaining knowledge, or  starting new projects. Work related to mass media such as publishing and printing. Forming social contracts such as marriage or even meeting friends,. Consumer deals such as shopping, sales, business, logic, preparing and taking medicines.  Avoid lies, cruelty and violence, don’t bet.

Thursday

Ruled by Brihaspati or Jupiter | Deity: Gurudev Dutt | Guru

A Day for people of protective authority such as teachers, parents or mentors. Also represents higher officials, worship, wisdom, knowledge, devotion, children and money. A favourable day for activities like getting married, giving gifts, doing charity, buying, shopping for important things, selling, planning finances, for charity, learning scriptures and new things, meditation, meeting your guru or boss, teaching and spending time with children, for banking, financial planning, beginning new education. Don’t get angry, don’t be greedy, fickle minded or violent or lazy or ungrateful. Don’t tell lies.

Friday 

Ruled by Shukra or Venus | Deity: Lakshmi/ Forms of Lakshmi / Shakambhari

Venus represents the feminine. It also represents luxury or big business. A day of love, pleasures, fine arts, harmony, luck and happiness. Good day for buying jewelry, accessories, clothes, flowers and any fine art or decorative things. Romantic activities such as marriage, dating, visiting or inviting friends, all types of pleasures, eating good food and sweets, money matters, travel and tourism. Avoid selling important things, being lonely.

Saturday 

Ruled by Shani or Saturn | Deity: Hanuman

Day of working with hands, as expression of service, work and charity. Although Saturday is about working, it is about slow, deliberate, detailed work that will endure, as Saturn prefers this. Do things related to iron, land, farming and housing, yoga, meditation. Avoid fuss, doing anything important, don’t begin anything new. Behave yourself, be humble, not a day to be argumentative or rash, take care of your health. Avoid haircut or manicure.
